    Description

    This is an 8 1/2" pint size early flint glass pillar mold decanter with large bar lip and ground/polished pontil.....attributed to a Pittsburgh glasshouse in the 1840s or 1850s....big applied double ring "bar lip"....
    Thick heavy flint glass.....8 pillars beginning at base and tapering up nothing at base of neck....no shoulder ring.....8 1/2"tall x 4 1/2"across base....Excellent shiny nice condition with only one small shallow chip on very bottom & a couple tiny high point pin head nicks on rib;  A nice shiny clean bottle with no haze. ...These are often called "Steamboat" decanters because they were popular on the steamboats going up and down the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. The larger bottom and heavy glass made it very difficult for this decanter to fall over, even when the going was rough
