1940s HUBLEY PADLOCK PISTOL DIE CAST HIDDEN / TRICK CAP GUN TOY IN FORM OF LOCK

Very rare and original, 1940’s Die Cast, Padlock form, Hidden / Trick Cap Gun manufactured by Hubley Manufacturing Company. Known as the “Padlock Pistol” this novelty toy is quite the ingenious Cap Gun!!
This fascinating, 1937 Hubley Padlock / Hidden Cap Gun measures approx. 4 1/4" long overall and 3 1/4” wise at the shoulder of the Lock. The Trick Cap Gun, unfortunately lacks its original key. One half of the back side of the Padlock is hinged allowing a roll of 50 caps to be loader into the firing mechanism in the same way that caps are loaded into a Cowboy type, revolver Cap Gun of the period. When the Key was turned in the Lock, the barrel of a gun emerges from the bottom of the Lock. As the barrel emerges, the roll of caps is advanced and the hammer of the internal “cap gun” mechanism is cocked. When the key is fully turned, the hammer fires the cap and the barrel retracts back inside the Lock with a snap.
This Cap Gun was known as the “Padlock Pistol” and was advertised by Hubley as “A new kind of repeating Cap Pistol” that was a “50 shot repeater” that “Easily hooks on the belt” and had a “Hidden Barrel”. We have never seen this fascinating Toy before and both the form and the action are quite wonderful!
This wonderful, Padlock form, Toy Cap Gun is in excellent, original condition. There are no crack, breaks, chips or physical damage of any kind. It is 100% original and in excellent working condition – it fires smoothly as designed and the mechanism is tight and strong however we do not have the large, skeleton key form Key that activates the mechanism. The surface retains approx. 80%+ of the original surface japanning and the toy displays nicely. As stated above, the Trick Cap Gun lacks its original Key.

This replica gun contains the colored markings required by law, including a permanently attached orange plug.
