Hopalong Cassidy Wyandotte Cap guns and Holsters in Original Box, 1950. Two guns, 2 holsters, and a belt. The belt is about 33.5’’ from steer-head buckle to silver-metal tip. Belt is almost 3’’ wide and the buckle and end are securely attached, as they were when I got this set 70 years ago. The holsters are about 11’’ long and heavily studded with a nice steer-head concho on each one. There are 12 bullet loops on the belt, but over the years 2 of the wooden gold-painted bullets have been lost. I should have included a photo of one of the cartridges to show the patina that they have from riding in these loops for 7 decades. The box is original and has been the storage place for this beautiful set from the beginning, but I didn’t always treat it right, so nearly all of the corner seams are split. The box bottom has 3 corners split and one side completely loose from the bottom and both ends. The box top has 2 good ends and one good side: the other side is missing a piece about 6’’ long. One end is not connected at all to the 2 sides.
The guns were my “dress-up” cowboy apparel for several years, but they were never my “riding the range / chasing the bad guys” guns, because I wanted them to last. Strangely, after I outgrew my heroes, I put these back in the box & didn’t even look at them for long periods of time.
The ‘barrel release’ works just fine on both guns, allowing the action to break and then to close again snugly. One gun’s trigger works fine, firing and repeating smoothly. The other gun’s trigger works okay, but also releases the action, so won’t repeat. I suspect if I were a bit more handy I could make it work. They haven’t been oiled in, maybe, 50 years, and neither one shows much corrosion from firing caps.
Both guns were stored in the holsters, so they show some patina, or greying where they were in contact with the holster. I didn’t want to try to clean them – I watch Roadshow!
There was a query about the leather of belt and holsters, something I hadn't thought about. I checked by bending and stressing the components and they showed great flexibility and suppleness.
These are toy cap guns, cannot be modified to shoot live ammo. They are pictured with orange plug in barrels, will only be sold in U. S. as Per Ebay Rules.
