Vintage Very Rare Cribbage Board 1970 Peg O' Matic Hedgehog Style, Bette Bemis.
This is a rare find for the true cribbage board collector. The board is even mentioned by Bette Bemis in her authoritative book on cribbage board collections. One of the photos shows a shot from her book in which she describes hedgehog boards in general and then refers specifically to this model.
This version was produced and distributed in the late 60s and early 70s by Heines Publishing Co. Inc. Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The board is in good shape for its age. All the pegs are in place and pop up when the spring loaded ends are depressed. All pegs push down but some are a bit sticky.
The box on the other hand is not in good shape. It has had tape on it and the box had a foil like coating that has peeled off at the tape was added and removed over the years. I choose to leave the box as is and let the buyer decide if there is anything that can be done to restore it.
The board is completely playable as is but I find it a bit awkward and unusual for my tastes and prefer a standard peg board but this one would be great to add to your collection of unique cribbage boards.
I don’t see any other of these for sale on ebay and it looks like there has only been 2 sold so it is very rare.
