Description
It is 113/4" tall and the base is 3 1/4". I bought this bottle from Harry Reno of Manchac, La. back in the early-to-mid 80's. He told me that he, or another shrimper, trolled it up in Lake Pontchartrain. He was the guy who had two M. J. H. Eagle Bottles, the Rye & Bourbon, that I had for 20+ years. Harry MAY have had this bottle slightly cleaned; I am not sure? In the1975, "Illustrated Price Guide of Antique Bottles" by Carlo & Dot Sellari, there is a photograph of this exact bottle on page 286, number 4842.There are no cracks, chips, pings, or dings. Just to be accurate, I will say that there are a few super light scratches. The embossing is very bold and it is fluted around both the neck, shoulders, and base. The fluting forms 14 panels. The top is tooled. I have hunted for Western and Eastern picture whiskies for over 45 years and have never seen another one of these.
The embossed "Player" appears to have on a leather cap, knees pads, and he is too fat. The two footballs are the old, oval shaped balls used during the early days of the sport. If you like picture whiskies, don't miss this one! If someone else has ever seen one of these bottle, I would love to know.
